Of course as you know, before you can read the recap, we need to announce the next tournament. The next tournament will be Monday, June 23rd at 8 PM!
We had a big turnout at Irving despite a massive storm that was dropping sideways rain. Nine people showed up to battle it out at the 1st Annual Tupac Shakur Shootout. Two More came to hang out and bask in the festivities (Justin Ray and Harold Shelton).
Chris Lees jumped out to the early chip lead after he made a couple of flushes in large hands. Chips were being pushed around the table and eventually Matt Ketaineck got short on chips and pushed with the Q7 of hearts. He was called by Scott Randall who held Ace-10. Scott hit 2 pair on the flop when the board came down A109. Ketaineck failed to improve on the turn and river and was the first one out.
Shortly after, with four to a straight on board (9, 10, J, 8) Chris Lees moved all in. After thinking it over for a bit, David Rose called with QJ, giving him a straight. Lees had a lot of outs as he flipped over pocket 9's and needed the board to pair to make a boat. The river brought a harmless 6 and Chris was the second one out of the shootout.
Matt Willis, short on chips pushed with AJ offsuit and was called by Clutch with A10. Clutch didn't improve and was now the short stack as Willis doubled up. Shortly after in the most exciting hand of the night Clutch saw his KJ go up against Randall's AK. A king came on the flop, but Clutch was still drawing to just 3 outs as he was outkicked. The turn brought exactly what Clutch needed as a Jack dropped. But a miracle ace on the river provided the redraw Willis needed to eliminate Clutch in 7th place.
Next to get short on chips was J-Mac, who pushed with a Q10. After deliberating for a while, Vince Masi called him down with QJ offsuit and had him dominated. The flop came down 9JJ giving Vince trips and J-Mac an open-ended straight draw. The turn was a deuce and the river a 10, so Vince eliminated J-Mac in 6th place.
A round or so later, Vince raised in late position. DRose moved all in and was called immediately by Masi who flipped up a pair of kings. David held A9. The flop was 468 and Rose still needed an Ace to take the lead in the hand. The turn wasn't an ace, but a 7, giving 8 more outs. A river queen was no help, and Vince had quite a large stack at this point as he eliminated DRose.
Now down to 4 players, Scott Randall was the short stack and from the button moved all in with KJ. He was called by Kenton in the small blind who held A9. An ace came on the flop and Randall's hand did not improve as he busted on the bubble.
Down to the final three, with a large chip lead, Kenton moved all in and was called by both blinds. Vince held a Q4 and Matt Willis had A6. Wong had pushed with pocket 3s, but was definitely not a favorite to hold up as he faced 4 overs. The flop came 7, 10, 9. The turn brought an ace giving Willis a strong lock on the hand and eliminating Masi, the river paired the board and Willis survived to move into heads up play.
On the 2nd hand of heads up, Kenton moved all in from the small blind and was called by Willis. Unfortunately for Matt, Wong had his 85 dominated with his Q5. When a Q came on the flop, Willis was in trouble. The runner-runner straight didn't come and the last man standing at the Tupac shootout was Kenton, representing the West Coast.
